good things

It's so easy to get wrapped up in the drama of many small things which leads to the tendency to forget about the small good things. Small tho they maybe, when you pay attention to the small good things, they far outweigh the small drama things.

I once had the privilege to work under this man. To make a long story short, he suffered a massive stroke from a go-cart injury to his neck.   After 6 weeks in the hospital, most of it in ICU, he has been moved to a rehab facility.

Fight on Morgan, fight on!

Morgan had a full day with the new therapists today. All things considered, he did well. He was exhausted in between the appointments he had with them though. He will get used to the pattern of the day very quickly.
The physical therapists took him in a wheelchair to the gym room. This was a big move for Morgan. He took the brake off of the wheel and helped roll the chair himself. They like his enthusiasm! This first session was challenging but the therapists know that since he has been in bed for the past 6 weeks, taking him to the gym was a huge move.

The speech therapist was very pleased with Morgan raising his thumb up for “yes” and shaking his hand from side to side for “no”. She had a series of questions and he answered almost all of them (OK, he missed one question out of about 20). The only challenge was keeping him awake while he was answering the questions. He can actually write with great clarity while his eyes are closed – what a skill! His cognitive reasoning is quite strong. The speech therapist was happy with this first test and I’m sure she would give him an “A” today!

We are very pleased with the care at this facility and know that one day Morgan will be able to thank all the nurses and doctors himself. He is working hard to get there!
